Brain Navi Vol.6:
“Trust” is the foundation of nation-building

2015/05/13

Dear our precious customers, I am Kondo Noboru, CEO of Brain Works Group.

Our company has been devoting ourselves to connect Vietnamese and Japanese enterprises. And there is a topic in which both of countries are interested, that is construction industry.

If you look at construction industry boom in Vietnam in recent years, it can be said that construction industry is a rising star. This construction boom can be compared with Japan’s boom just before Tokyo Olympic Games in 1964. Once a country develops, the development of infrastructure is indispensable. Infrastructure improvement is the foundation of country developing.

However, we never think that infrastructure development is an easy task. Building roads or airports is easier said than done. Although I myself only worked in construction field for a short time, I am keenly aware of that.

Compared with other industries, working at construction site always disguises many risks. Roads, bridges and high buildings are facilities and infrastructure that people use for a long time. People can’t drive on a road with too much bumps. For bridges, in order to ensure the safety for passengers, construction work must be done with high level of accuracy and precision. Construction of high buildings requires the same thing, too. It is hard to imagine of a high building that may collapse at anytime.

Being active in IT industry for quite a long time, my sense for construction work has been paralyzed. In IT job, errors can be fixed within some keystrokes. But it does not go the same way with constructing roads, bridges and high buildings. If work safety is neglected, accidents may occur at anytime and will take many precious lives away. Thus, when I heard about phrases such as “infrastructure development”, “infrastructure improvement”, I immediately think of these things.

In Vietnam where we are doing business, a lot of infrastructure built up with support from Japan is bringing people many advantages. Thanks to recently built bridges, people can cross rivers which they cannot cross in the past. Bridges help traffic become more convenient and give birth to new business. Outdated airports also have been modernized in order to serve people’s life and work better.

It is not true that Japan is able to construct any infrastructure from the beginning. Japan had experienced a lot of failure in the past. Failure in the construction of roads, bridges, buildings repeated many times, and from that, Japan has been improved the construction quality, step by step, to the level which everyone can trust and use. Japan has a long history of making up construction safety techniques, know-hows, and how to apply and develop them.

Infrastructure building can be said in another words as nation-building. From now on, we will tell Asia in general and Vietnam in particularly about Japan’s failure and lessons . “Trust” is the foundation in nation-building. We will spread this way of thinking through our business activities. This is also the thing that we want to talk with all of our Vietnamese guests who will attend our next seminar “Learning Japanese management method”. We hope to see you there and warmly welcome all of you.
